20 Tiny Pools: Small Pool Design Ideas

tiny pool

Small inground pools are becoming very popular in urban centers, beach and resort areas, and just about everywhere. People can consider small pools as plunge pools or splash pools, utilizing them not only for a quick dip on a hot day but also for therapy or exercise.

What Qualifies as a Small Pool?

In my mind, it’s anything that’s under 10,000 gallons or less than 200 square feet in area. For our small inground vinyl pool kits, we have done small pool sizes of 10’x10′, 8’x24′, and even 12’x18′, but can do nearly any size and shape. Depths can vary from 24″ to 72″ on small pool designs.

What are the Benefits of a Small Pool?

There are many, starting with a much lower installation price. It’s also easier and cheaper to cover the pool. Taking care of a tiny pool is obviously much easier, and the operational costs for electricity, heating, and chemicals are also much lower. They take up a lot less space, which is the primary reason behind many small pool installations. Finally, a smaller pool may be safer or easier to protect.

Due to certain fixed costs, small pool may not necessarily be half the cost of a pool twice its size. However, it can save as much as 40% of the cost to build your own inground pool! Small pools come in all shapes (and sizes). They’re best when designed to fit snugly, complementing the space.

Today’s post is a photo blog with a gallery of small pool designs. Below, you’ll find 20 tiny inground vinyl pool designs, all of which are beautifully built! Let’s take a look, shall we?

Small Rectangle Pools

Talk about making the most of your surroundings! This pool in Montréal was built in an already small backyard area. However, the thoughtful orientation and carefully planned landscaping bring a beautiful modern aesthetic to the area that makes the whole space appear larger. Beautifully designed walk-in steps and bench seating make this plunge pool both inviting and accommodating.

Immerse yourself in a blend of simplicity and nature, as this pool with sandy surroundings becomes your personal sanctuary of calm and relaxation.

raised pool with concrete

Secret Gardens of Sydney constructed this minimalist lap pool using poured concrete. It takes up most of this small backyard, but gives back so much more. A blend of wood and plants wraps the pool beautifully. It’s hard to see, but at the far end is a 6’x6′ spa. Between the pool and spa is a 6’x8′ equipment area, wrapped in wood.

The deck, constructed from rich, warm-toned wood, extends seamlessly around the irregular contours of the pool, creating a serene oasis that invites relaxation and leisure. Small Round Pools

A small round pool has a certain elegance and is easy to construct with a vinyl pool kit. Here’s a beautiful round inground pool with walk-in steps. The builders finished it with a brick deck and an additional hot tub connected to it. These extra touches really make this pool pop!

Bonus Pool Photo

Hi, do you gave a 6 ft round pool kit, depth is negotiable as I just want something small to cool Off in summer when it hits high 99s and iver 100. .

    • Hi Carole, no we don’t have an inground 6 ft round pool, but we do have some 10 ft round intex pools. You may also look at what is called “Stock Tank pools”, which can be installed inground or partially inground.

  2. Bryan CHRISTMAN

    Hi There

We are looking for a 6ft by 60ft rectangle inground pool. Can you send me pricing on that?

    Thank you in advance
    Bryan

  3. I am looking for a small plunge pool and I live in Las Vegas. Do you do install as well?

    • Hi Yvonne, we do not install pools, sorry, but we do sell aboveground pools and inground vinyl pool kits

  4. Do you sell kits for above ground lap pools? Would love to do something similar to the concrete pool pictured above that you say was done by Sydney Architects. Thanks!

    • We do have lap pool kits yes. 6′ or 8′ wide, and 40, 50, 60 ft long, or more! Ask for Andy Boyle at 1-800-288-7946

  5. Louise Link

Do you offer installation of the inground pools or is it only diy

    • Hi louise, we did have a fellow named Randy in the past, who traveled the country building pools for our customers, but he has now retired, so currently we have no installers 🙁

  6. Tamara Hall

Can you do a 6 ft by 6 ft by 6 ft deep pool?

    • Hi Tamara, I’m not sure, that might be too small to work with our pool kits, because the step section has to fit in somewhere (you cannot build a pool without egress steps, unless you do it secretly, and without permits, which I would not recommend). 8 ft might be the smallest size we can do – to find out for sure, please contact our inground pool kit team at 1-800-288-7946

  7. We are looking for a quote on a small inground pool. About 15ft’6 to 8 ft?

  8. I live in Atlanta ga I’m very interested in getting a pool for my backyard ! Is not very big I would say a 10X20 how much a 10X20 pool would cost ?

    • Hi, our smallest inground pool kit is a 12’x24, which is priced at $7K, or say $8K with equipment. We could do it slightly smaller, I believe that a 10’x20′ is possible, and would be a little less costly, perhaps $7K with equipment. Then installation will cost another $7-15K, depending on how much YOU do, and how much you hire out, and what type / size of pool deck you install. Our inground pool kit prices are here, or call 1-855-342-4741 to speak with our inground vinyl pool kit reps.

  9. Kathy Santandreu

HI. Wondering how large the last one is (funny pic with all those people)? What is the deepest that could go? And what would you say was the round about price for building that as a DIY? Thanks!!

    • Hi Kathy, that looks like it may be a 12′ x 18′ pool, with bullnose brick coping and a paver deck. The pool kit, if built in vinyl, would be about $5K. The materials, supplies and subcontractors would cost another $10K. About 15K in total, with a small deck as shown, not including the screened-in bug cage, which I just noticed.

  10. Hi. Do you sell (electric heat pump) heaters for small in ground pools? If not, what size heater and manufacturer do you recommend? Thanks!

  11. William Berotte

Looking for a small narrow pool for my backyard. It would be nice if it was a wave pool that I can swim against. Please send examples.

  12. Mary Ann Fabich

We are interested in a small in the ground pool to fit within 141/2 x 50 yard back yard. I am especially interested in the first pool pictures in your ad with the safety surround feature. Could you please send me a catalog with prices ??

    • Hi Mary Ann; our inground pool kits (thank you for asking), are available as small as 8′ wide, with 6′ steps on each end, and either a flat 42″ – 48″ bottom, or a sloping to center or sloping to other end styles. If your yard is just 14.5 ft wide, you could put the 8′ and then have a 3 ft deck all around, or a raised wall on the opposite side, and more deck on the house side. Most lap pools are 10’x 50′, but we can also do 8’x 40′, another popular size, or other lengths. Here’s another blog post that discusses the process of installing our DIY inground pool kits. The Prices for Pool Kits, are shown here, with a 10’x50′ lap pool kit, selling for $6999, with everything needed to build your own vinyl pool kit, and you can customize (upgrade) the pool in a number of ways. If you want to know more, please call and speak to our inground pool kit reps, who can help you price and plan for such a pool, which, after complete installation, can cost as low as $17K (with concrete pool deck), but can be customized (upgraded), to a higher cost as desired. They are at 1-800-288-SWIM, and just ask to speak to the inground pool reps 🙂

  13. Jennifer

Where are you located? Do you travel for installation?

    • Hi Jennifer, we are located in Chicago, but we do not offer any installation services. Our in-ground pool kits are meant to be DIY installed, altho the job could be managed by the homeowner and the work done by others hired on for the job.
